Armaan Ebrahim to drive in 2013 FIA GT Series

Chennai lad Armaan Ebrahim has signed up to race in the 2013 FIA GT Series for the BMW Sports Trophy Team India squad driving a BMW Z4. The team will be run by the Spanish outfit Sun Red Racing under the management Franck Tiné. SunRed previously raced with Ford GT cars and is making a switch to BMWs this year.

Armaan did a single race stint in the GT1 Moscow Round in 2012 with the SunRed Racing driving a Ford GT alongside Benjamin Lariche and finished 9th overall. The 23yr old driver shifted to GT cars from being rooted in single seaters like GP2 Asia, A1GP, Formula 2 and Indy Lights in the previous years. Armaan, a young Indian racing prodigy, is partly supported by JK Tyre, Puma and Trimex.

The 2013 FIA GT Series (previously FIA GT1 Series) has been completely revamped by a new management under Stephane Ratel´s SRO Group. The 6 round season will kickstart in Nogaro, France from March 29th and will go on to Belgium, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain and possibly the Middle East.

Armaan Ebrahim
: “Moving from Formula Cars to GT Cars will be a new challenge though I had a taste of it in Moscow last year. The FIA GT Series looks impressive and I like the way SRO runs the whole series. I also liked my GT experience last year and thus have finalised a full year’s drive for this year. I do look forward to working very hard and closely with the team to achieve the results we have set our sights on. Driving under the BMW Sports Trophy Team India brand will surely be exciting as for one, I was a BMW Motorsport Scholarship winner when I raced in the Formula BMW Championship and it is good to be associated with BMW again. In addition, if we can put Team India on the podium it will be absolutely great for India.”

Franck Tiné
, Team Manager: “I am very proud to announce this new team inside the FIA GT Series. We’ve found great people to work with in BMW Motorsport, and the Indian project with Armaan is really interesting for the future. As a driver, his experience in single–seater will be very valuable and his skills in GT cars are already proven, after the race he did with the Ford GT in Moscow last season. I am sure that we will be able to get excellent results and fight for the Pro Am crown. We are all motivated and really look forward to the first race of this new series, created by Stephane Ratel and his very professional staff.”
